Install a Shopify Theme

After purchasing a Shopify theme, the next step is installing it in your Shopify admin. The installation process depends on where you purchased the theme.

NextSky themes purchased from ThemeForest require manual upload, while themes purchased from the Shopify Theme Store can be installed directly through Shopify.

Before you start

Before installing a new theme, make sure you:

  • Have access to your Shopify admin
  • Downloaded the theme file (if purchased from ThemeForest)
  • Keep a backup of your current live theme
  • Use a desktop browser for easier setup

You can access your themes page from:

Shopify Admin → Online Store → Themes

Install a theme from ThemeForest

This method applies to themes such as:

  • Umino
  • Glozin

These themes are downloaded as .zip files and must be uploaded manually.

Step 1: Download the installable theme file

After purchasing from ThemeForest , download:

Installable Shopify Theme File Only (.zip)

Do not unzip the file before uploading.

Step 2: Open the Themes page in Shopify

In your Shopify admin:

Online Store → Themes

Scroll to the:

Theme library

section.

Step 3: Upload the theme

Click:

Add theme → Upload zip file

Then:

  1. Select the .zip theme file from your computer
  2. Click Upload

Shopify will begin processing the theme upload.

Step 4: Wait for installation to complete

Once uploaded, the theme will appear inside your Theme Library.

At this stage, the theme is installed but not yet live.

Step 5: Preview the theme

Before publishing, preview the theme to check:

  • Homepage layout
  • Navigation menus
  • Mobile responsiveness
  • Product pages
  • Installed apps compatibility

Click:

Actions → Preview

Install a theme from the Shopify Theme Store

This method applies to themes such as:

  • Purity
  • Agile

These themes can be added directly through Shopify.

Step 1: Open the Shopify Theme Store

Visit the official NextSky designer page:

NextSky Shopify Theme Store

Step 2: Select a theme

Choose the theme you want to install and open its product page.

Step 3: Start the theme

Click one of the available options:

Try theme

or

Buy theme

Shopify will automatically add the theme to your store’s Theme Library.

No manual upload is required.

Step 4: Customize the theme

Once added, click:

Customize

to edit:

  • Colors
  • Typography
  • Homepage sections
  • Header and footer
  • Product page layouts

Publish your Shopify theme

After installation and testing, you can make the theme live.

From the Themes page:

Actions → Publish

Your new theme will now become the active storefront theme.

Important tips before publishing

Backup your current theme

Before switching themes, duplicate your existing theme first.

This allows you to restore your previous design if needed.

Test apps and custom code

Some third-party Shopify apps may require reconfiguration after changing themes.

Check:

  • Product reviews apps
  • Wishlist apps
  • Page builders
  • Currency converters
  • Custom Liquid code

Avoid editing the live theme immediately

It is recommended to customize and test the new theme before publishing it live.

You can safely work on unpublished themes inside the Theme Library.

Common installation issues

The zip file cannot be uploaded

Make sure:

  • The file format is .zip
  • You downloaded the installable theme package
  • The file was not extracted before upload

The theme looks different from the demo

This is normal. Demo stores usually contain:

  • Demo images
  • Example products
  • Custom navigation menus
  • Promotional banners

You will need to configure your own content after installation.

Apps are not displaying correctly

Some apps require manual embedding inside the new theme.

Try:

Customize → App embeds

and enable the required app blocks.
