Laurel - Intro
Laurel is a Shopify theme for brands that sell through visuals: clean editorial layouts, calm typography, and a mobile-first storefront that keeps shoppers moving from browsing to checkout. You set everything up in the Shopify Theme Editor (Online Store > Themes > Customize); no coding required.
When Laurel is a good fit
Laurel suits your store if you recognize yourself here:
- You sell products people choose with their eyes (clothing, accessories, lifestyle goods), and you want photography to lead the page.
- Most of your traffic is on phones and you need a layout that stays clean on a small screen.
- You want product pages that help people decide: clear media, product information, and a smooth add-to-cart flow.
- You would rather adjust the store yourself in the Theme Editor than ask a developer for every change.
If your catalog is mainly text and specification driven, a photo-led theme like Laurel will work against you.
What Laurel gives you
Editorial layouts for fashion
Build pages that read like a lookbook: large imagery, room to breathe, and lifestyle storytelling next to your products.
A store that works on phones
Layouts are designed mobile-first, so browsing and product discovery stay clean on a small screen without extra work from you.
Product pages built to convert
Product media, product information, and add-to-cart are laid out to help a shopper decide without hunting for details.
What you can change yourself
Everything below is edited in the Theme Editor and applies across your whole store.
| What you want to do | Where you do it |
|---|---|
| Put your logo and browser icon in place | |
| Set your brand colors | |
| Choose fonts and text sizes | |
| Set page width and spacing | |
| Decide what appears on each product card in a grid | |
| Build your menu and top bar | |
| Set up footer links and contact details |
Pages are assembled from sections and blocks that you add, reorder, and remove in the Theme Editor, so your home page, product page, and collection pages can each tell a different story without touching code.
Two setup steps that are easy to miss
Do these before you start styling, so your pages do not look empty while you work.
- Install the apps the theme relies on. Some features use free Shopify apps that are not part of the theme package. See Recommended Apps.
Result: the features that depend on them can display on your storefront. - Create the required metafields and metaobjects. These hold per-product content such as short descriptions, product badges, and filter values. See Create Required Metafields.
Result: each product shows its own content while sharing one template.
Examples by catalog type
- Fashion and accessories: lead with lifestyle photography, then let shoppers narrow down by attributes such as family, material, or style using the filter metaobjects.
- Lifestyle and home goods: use storytelling sections to explain materials and use cases before the add-to-cart, so higher-priced items feel justified.
- Single-collection or capsule brands: build one strong home page story and keep navigation short; section-based pages let you rearrange that story each season.
Where to go next
Follow these in order:
- Recommended Apps : install what the theme relies on
- Create Required Metafields : prepare your product data
- Logo and favicon , then Colors , then Typography : make it yours
- Header and Footer : set up navigation
