Product Disclosure

The Disclosures block on the product page shows the safety warnings and regulatory notices attached to a product, for example a Proposition 65 warning or a choking hazard notice.

Unlike the other content blocks in Purity, you do not create this metafield yourself. Shopify provides it as a standard product metafield called Disclosures (shopify.disclosure), together with a set of ready-made warning entries. You enable it once, then attach the entries you need to each product.

Because the key belongs to Shopify, this block has no Metafield setting to point somewhere else, and you cannot recreate it under your own namespace. See Metafield settings for the blocks that do let you choose the key.

Step 1: Turn on the Disclosures metafield

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Settings -> Metafields and metaobjects (on older stores this is Settings -> Custom data).
  2. Click Products.
  3. Open Disclosures and enable it.

This creates the slot on your products. It does not add any warning yet.

If Disclosures already appears in the Metafields area of a product, the definition is on and you can skip this step.

Step 2: Attach disclosures to a product

  1. Go to Products and open the product you want to add a warning to.
  2. Scroll to the Metafields area and click Disclosures.
  3. Pick one of Shopify's ready-made entries, for example a Proposition 65 chemical warning or a CPSC choking hazard warning.
  4. To write your own wording, click Add new entry and create a custom disclosure.
  5. Click Save.

Purity displays every disclosure attached to a product, so attach only the ones you want all of your visitors to read. If you sell into several markets and each needs different wording, keep to the warnings that apply everywhere you ship.

Adding the same warning to many products: use the products bulk editor to attach a disclosure to a whole selection at once, instead of opening each product.

Step 3: Show it on the product page

  1. In the theme editor (Customize), open your product template.
  2. Select the Product information section and add the Disclosures block.
  3. Drag it to where you want it in the product details, set the Heading, then Save.
